An Update on Jamil...

Dear Friends,

I apologize in advance that I am not sending you each a personal response. I have been so wonderfully inundated with messages of care, concern, and assurance of prayers for Jamil that it is going to take me a while to get back to each of you. (Which is a WONDERFUL problem to have, let me tell you!) Thank you ALL SO VERY MUCH!

Today marks Jamil's 5th day in ICU and this is where things seem to be at this time:

Today J went in to another surgery (his 4th) and, by God’s grace!, they did not find any more infected tissue!! So we’re on a roll! He did start developing a chest rash yesterday the doctors think as a result of antibiotics they’re giving him. If it continued to spread they weren’t going to go to the OR today, but thankfully, that wasn’t the case. While that was a bit discouraging, the really wonderful thing is that last night they lowered his level of sedative and while still essentially “out of it,” he was able to squeeze his mom’s hand in response to a couple of questions the nurses asked him. When they asked him if he was feeling any pain, he didn’t squeeze! He even managed a thumbs-up last night. What a tremendous victory! (And miraculously, without having to use the hyperbaric chamber. I still can’t believe it!) Glory to God!

SO, since it is appearing that the diseased tissue is gone, they are starting to ramp up the nutrition he needs. Since Tuesday, they have been feeding him through a feeding tube. Now it’s just a matter of getting him to a place where he needs to be so the doctors can start thinking about reconstruction. Today in the surgery the doctors were able to replace his vacuum bandage and for the next 4-5 days they will be able to maintain a clean wound. Hopefully all of that combined will get him ready for the skin reconstruction process. They hope to extubate him in the next couple of days too. Of course, he is still in the ICU and remains in critical condition in spite of these small victories. There is still a lot that could go wrong with the skin reconstruction, but everyone is cautiously optimistic. Oh! And I forgot to mention, on Tuesday night, he started regaining some of his normal color, which is a HUGE blessing! He’s still really swollen, but we’ll definitely take color and all that it means for his progress!

Okay, so I think that’s the update for now. As you can imagine, it’s a day by day battle. We will see what tomorrow brings! As I have said to many friends, May we continue begging and thanking God for His Loving Kindness and Miraculous Mercy to be had in Jamil's life!

While it’s still going to be sometime yet before he’s there to read them himself, his family is getting a card collection going for him at his apartment. If you’re interested in sending one his way, I will be More Than Happy to give you his address! (I obviously didn't want to make it completely public on here for the sake of Jamil's privacy outside of those who have his best interest at heart.)

I will check in again as we get more news(hopefully only good news now!) Thank you again for your continued thoughts and prayers!

My love,
